Marathon in the heart of the Florida Keys
Marathon is considered to be the heart of The Florida Keys. Located approximately 50 miles north of Key West and 50 miles south of Key Largo, Marathon boasts an active commercial life. It is also house to the wonderful Sombrero Reef: diving and snorkeling spot. Marathon’s south-end border leads to the world famous 7 mile bridge where each year thousands of joggers run the Seven Mile Bridge Run. There it also takes place the Annual Speed boat Race tournament.
Marathon is proud of its renovated Airport. Several charters will fly you from West Palm beach International Airport and from other places in South Florida to this centrally located island with easy access to the outer islands.
Marathon is known to be a perfect family vacation destination. The newly renovated Sombrero Beach has picnic facilities, playgrounds for kids, and a great beach for swimming and enjoying the sand.
Water sports, fishing, diving, and snorkeling are the primary activity of this area composed of several keys, such as the luxury resort “Hawks Cay” in Duck Key, Grassy Key, and Pigeon Key, which are the most renamed. Key Colony Beach and Sombrero Beach neighborhoods are among the most secluded and private on the island.
It has been heard that the locals say ” The Best sunsets in The Florida Keys are in Marathon”
Getting to Marathon is a whole adventure on its own. Weather you decide to travel by air, land or sea, the experience of entering the island chain and its tropical environment is something that every avid traveler should do at least once.
